Wichita Mountains

About: Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge (WMWR) is one of the best places to climb granite in the DFW area. The hills pop out of nowhere near Fort Sill and the town of Lawton, OK. Without a doubt there is more climbing here than anywhere within 500 miles. A variety of climbing is available including sport, trad, and aid on slab, cracks, and faces. The rock is usually outstanding quality and climbable year-round.

Camping: The only camping on the refuge is found in the Dorris Campground. Here one can place a few tents and park two vehicles for $8 a night. This price includes the use of their showers and restrooms. Arrivals after hours can park in the visitor lot and walk in if necessary. Don't forget the Refuge has a no alcohol policy. [Map]
